Vocals, voices, voice effects, sound effects.
Jan started singing before he could speak and as a child he was inseparatable from his radio, waiting for the next Beatles song. Later he impressed many with his vocal harmony arrangements which both John and Sebastian would have liked.
When he started singing in pop bands his interest in electronics and improvisation grew, resulting in a unique style of dadaistic lyrics processed by electronics, sometimes subtle, sometimes out of this world, sometimes accompanied by some strange sounds or a looped beat.
Clarinet, bass clarinet, soprano sax, tenor sax [member of Unheard Music Concepts]
Han started playing clarinet in a band club when he was seven, during his teens he switched to East European music and then moved on to jazz, and still loves to pratice Bach suites. His melodies seem to come from all over the world, and sometimes from another planet. Han is still asking himself if four different wind instruments is enough.
Piano, electric piano, synths [member of Unheard Music Concepts]
Marc started playing classical piano when he was six years old. During his teens he joined some pop bands, then picked up classical music again, and studied piano and compostion at the ‘Rotterdam Conservatory’.
His musical taste ranges from Bach to Zappa, and that is reflected in his playing. Sometimes one note is enough, other moments he will fill the space with solo improvisations.
Guitar
Rob started playing guitar when he was 14 years old, and never stopped. He played in countless rock, funk and pop bands and studied Music and Technology at the Utrechts School of Arts.
He can't live without his wah pedal, and of course his flower power guitar. From dissonant solo’s with his e-bow to subtle rythmic layers, Rob loves it all! Rob is also a gifted graphic designer and made the artwork for Shapes.
Upright bass, recording, editing, drum programming, arranging, mixing, production. [member of Unheard Music Concepts]
Daniel has been fascinated by sound in all it’s forms since he was a child, and could never decide wether he should play an instrument or mix them. So he does both.
He studied Music and Technology in Hilversum, played guitar, fretless bass, Chapman stick and Warr guitar, until he fell in love with the upright bass. He worked as a sound engineer for many years and has worked in all kinds of musical styles. For him, improvisation has always been a special form of music. Chance as a base.
Drums, electronic drums
Four tracks on the album Shapes were recorded with Gerard Tijnagel on electronic drums way back in 2006. We decided to release these tracks as a tribute to Gerard who passed away in July 2021.
Way too early for a very creative drummer, who was taught the classic way of drumming when he learned to play in a local marching band. Once in his teens he played and toured with several pop/rock bands in Europe and the UK.
Later he experimented with electronic drums and synthesizers and went into a minimalist experimental style of drumming. (we hope he’ll meet Charlie Watts up there)
